Opportunities to give abound

 

You might be a parent, student, employee or a friend, but you’re also a philanthropist if you give time, money or other resources to benefit your community.

This holiday season, Columbia’s staff will converge to donate food boxes to the homeless through SHARE House. We invite you to join us in the spirit of holiday giving. The following organizations are some places to consider in your giving plans:

Children’s Center – Needs new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages. Donations can be dropped off until Dec. 14 at Java House, 210 W Evergreen, Vancouver, 360.699.2244. www.thechildrenscenter.org.

Arc of Clark County – Has ongoing need for children’s clothing such as sleepwear, sweats, diapers and socks. Also, household cleaning supplies, toilet tissue, toiletries and nonperishable food. Drop off donations at 9415 NE Fourth Plain Rd.,Vancouver, 360.254.1562. www.arcofclarkcounty.org.

Children’s Home Society – Asking for donations of unwrapped holiday gifts for needy families (call for more information). Also requesting donations of board games, wrapping paper, tags, tape and volunteers for gift distribution. Drop off donations by Dec. 15 at 309 W 12th St., Vancouver, 360.695.1325.

Hough Foundation – Needs new or gently used knickknacks and toys, as well as gift items for moms and dads for “Father Christmas” shopping event for students at Hough Elementary. Also requesting gift wrap, bows and tape. Drop off donations by Dec. 7 at 1900 Daniels St., Vancouver, 360.313.2107.

Humane Society SW WA – Ongoing need of canned cat and dog food, non-clumping litter, small dog blankets, towels, hidey boxes for cats (shoe boxes, etc.), small mammal water sippers, high quality dog treats, leashes, harnesses (gentle leaders or halti’s), stainless steel food and water bowls, rabbit pellets and Timothy Hay. Drop off donations at 2121 St. Francis Lane, Vancouver, 360.693.4746. www.southwesthumane.org.

Battle Ground Adventist Community Services – Requesting blankets and coats throughout cold months. Also accepting food donations for ongoing and holiday needs. Drop off donations on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 11117 NE 189th St., Battle Ground, 360.687.3459.
