Baskets of food and gifts filled the front lobby at Share’s warehouse when Columbia staff delivered their donated goods this holiday season. According to coordinator Jessica Shannon it took two vans and one SUV to deliver the items. The gifts helped a total of 20 families that would not have had a reason to celebrate without help from Columbia employees.
Each family received items on their wish list and enough food to last about two weeks. The majority of families are just starting out in transitional or new housing. Most are single-parent households with at least one child. Columbia staff provided the children with a variety of presents, including skate boards, stuffed animals, gift cards, new clothes and games.
Share is a non-profit organization providing shelter, food and emergency services to help people get back into permanent housing and alleviate factors that lead to homelessness. This is the second year Columbia has supported Share at the holidays.
